Well I downloaded and installed the new HB SI software last night & got to try it out today. It added several new features to the unit that I believe that after I tinker with it a little it will be a positive. The one thing that really jumped out at me was how much clearer the SI display is. Little tweek'n I think it will really be into something. There is now a contrast control for the SI and that helps. There's also some other stuff that I ain't figured out yet.
I know everyone's big question is did it solve the slow refresh rate issue. Well the answer is... To some degree. I noticed that the Nav. screen is much better but still not up to par with my old Matrix 87c, but far and above where it was. I was actually able to go to a brushpile with it today for the first time.
I would like to say thanks to the HB folks, especially Joby, for their efforts. Yyou're get'n warmer HB. Not quit there yet, but much better.

Just to give you a little perspective on how long software updates can take; my brand new LCX-27C (2007) had a problem locking up in shallow, weedy water. Lowrance just put up Beta software last October to correct this problem. To this day, it is still beta and has not been completely approved.
The programmers are busy. We need to gemtly plod them along without p***ing them off so they will correct the issues that can be corrected through software.
In case you are wondering, I would not trade my LCX-27C or 997C for anything.
