What you love about fishing

Well im just wondering what everyone loves about fishing besides when they are catching the fish. For me its when im puting the boat into the water early in the morning when steam is coming off the water. I could fish all day like that and catch nothing and be fine.

I love making my own lures and inventions to make fishin4crappie easier. Other than that it is a thrill to catch them on something I made. I also love teaching others what little I know about this sport.

The added benefit is the peacefulness of nature while I am on the water.

for me its the tranquility i get in this " zone " nothing bothers me im in my own little world enjoying nature and if i catch a few fish thats just an added bonanza ..i too love it early morning when its cold out and steam is coming off the water i also love to paddle when the fog is dense it just has a mysterious felling . but then a wonderful sunset is hard to beat when your watching your child laughing and having a ball reel in a few fish nothing tops that i know i did my job when i see my kids enjoying lifes simple pleasures.........

For me fishing is a lifestyle. My life revolves around fishing.
There are so many reasons.
Maintaining a peace about myself comes from fishing.
Getting up early and watching the sunrises and as the day ends the gorgeous
sunsets.
Witnessing the wildlife as it surrounds us.Knowing full well that I can have a part in it's success my not leaving a footprint and by being a predator culling smaller fish and releasing the breeders .
I made a post earlier about living in Minnesota..........
Fishing in northern Minnesota usually means by the end of November a few of us are starting to make our way out onto the frozen lakes.
Typically we can have 4 inches of that black ice which is sorta spooky to walk on ,but having ice picks and a buddy with a rope tethered to me while I'll scout out the path to our destination gives me some solace that if I do go through ,I'll get out safely.
So far this has not happened ,but you never know.
Taking the risk for me is exhilarating.

We can ice fish for up to 5 solid months. The early season and late are of coarse my most favorite of times.The temps are milder and the fishing is hot!

As we get into mid winter the fishing can still be good ,but I'll find that those fish feeding habits change and so I must change with them.
Nice quality fish can be caught all winter long.

Then as late ice comes the action heats up all over again.

With the water pouring back into the lake warming it, the mayfly larva release from the mud and these tullies can be found in abundance.



Also fishing on ice during the late season is a great time to bring friends together.


I feel lucky to have quality lakes here in northern Minnesota.
Late ice is also a time when the geese and eagles return.
Listening to the honkers bawl as they fly over just gives me a great feeling inside.
The new life that is about to be born as this ice melts and the new spring arrives.


Fishing in Minnesota is a real treat. Too live here is something I do not take for granted.
Being an outdoors man it is my responsibility to aide in conservation.
Culling smaller fish for the pan and releasing those bigger fish through C.P.R. will help sustain and maintain these fisheries.
Let's all try to release those bigger breeders ...eh!

Also take a child or elder out fishing...both of you will be better for it.


Fishing also is something that I can teach others to do and seeing their eyes after a full day on the lake embeds this feeling of satisfaction knowing full well theirs lives have been enriched.
Along the path of life I've made some really good friend while fishing.

Fishing and being a tackle manufacturer and a reciepient of sponsorships also provides a small income which doesn't hurt the pocket book either.

I have been fishing the last 3 days and today I am at peace.
I had a chance to get my Dad on some nice fish.
Here's 1 from yesterday.

I also met a guy and we became friends.I had an opportunity to sit next to him in his shanty.He said he was having some problems catching.
Well after 20 minutes or so he says to me after I left him hey CK.....

What he had was not working so I gave him a 100th oz jig i made and showed him the lifting technique I was using.
When we left he had several fish and a big smile that followed with a handshake and a thank you.
I slept real good last night knowing I could help another fisherman out.
The day before yesterday I had 2 other new friends out and they also
were schooled.
At the end of the day we took our limits and I was able to see I had made a difference once again.

Giving back to a sport that has given so much to me is only fair.
Living a life on the lake can never be replaced.
Clean air,time away from the daily hassles of life ,a good workout and a tasty meal is just hard to beat.
Not to mention some quite time with God thanking Him for all of this.

Just getting outdoors with only one thing on my mind. I just fish and if I catch something, then all the better and if I don't, well that's just fine with me too. I can stay out from daylight to dark even if thr fish aren't biting. I know this next comment isn't in the question, but one thing I hate is when I take someone with me and they are constantly on the phone, talking about work, talking about the things that they should be home doing at the moment, complaining because the fish aren't jumping in the boat, etc. When that happens, I just load up and take them home and try to avoid taking them again. Guess that why I usually go by myself.

It's relaxing, it's a challenge, and it feeds the family. I don't go as much as I would like but it's still a LOT better than being at work.

their is not much I like about it, something always goes wrong, or I dont catch fish,or some idiot at the ramp wants to clean his boat, or take 30mi. to launch. I just go to see what the heck will happen next,
