    Default GPS/Mapping ???

I recently bought a Garmin E-trex GPS and a Kentucky Hydrografix sidescan map and there was a mix-up at the place I ordered my PC interface cable and it was delayed getting to me. I gave up on waiting for the cable and started entering waypoints manually. I'm now wondering(haven't been able to get free to go to the lake on a day the wind wasn't blowing) from reading other threads if these waypoints will be accurate without some kind of conversion??I think Canepole and some of the others on this site are familiar with the maps and the Oziexplorer software, any help would be appreciated.

I got Oziexplorer set to degrees, min, seconds. Don't matter. When you send data to the Garmin, data will automatically be in the format selected by the Garmin.

If you "hand enter" data into the Garmin, you have to enter the data in the format selected in the Garmin setup.

Lots of folks now using Ozie. Have questions, someone here can help.

Hand entering data right now in degreesxx.xxx', haven't been able to make Garmin talk to Ozi with cable yet. I don't know much about this stuff, just assumed a point was a point as long as it was degreesxx.xxx'. Haven't messed with cable much, may have to seek help. Anybody catching any fish down your way? Between little girl breaking her arm and the wind, I haven't got to fish.

I too use Ky hydrografx however, I send them to an MMC card and load them in my fish finder.

The only thing I would tell you to double check is the map datum for the Ozi Explorer and the Garmin and make sure they are the same. I'm sure they already are the same.

On my OZi explorer the map datum is WSG 84. I am sure the Garmin is set to this by default, but I would double check.

I had another program and the default map datum was different than my handheld. I was trying to load waypoints from my handheld to the computer. I had phyisically marked the waypoints with my handheld. However, when I uploaded them onto the computer it would show them on land and miles away from where I knew they were. When I changed the map datum, they lined up where they were supposed to be.

However, I since got Hydrografx and love it. I have found that the hydrografx waypoints to be dead on. It is amazing to mark stumps on my computer 3 hours away from KY lake, drive down there and find them with my Lowrance. I fish the Big Sandy area of the lake.

    Good Luck
