    Default Limited Out

Caught my daily limit, 30 per creel , 2 creel per day in a hair under four hours this morning. Went to Woods Reservoir and could have walked across that lake without getting my feet wet with all the boats out there. Biggest was 14 1/4 1.31 pounds black male. Fishing a combo of minnows on slip bobbers and pitching a solid white 1/16th oz popeye jig. Hope everyone else had a great day also. Noticed Moose has been posting all day, so he must not be fishing again. PS: I had one guy with me and he wore them out also. I didn't get a count on his, but he was close on the limit also.

Great job Fatboy. Gotta love it when they're bitin'. Do you feel your recent guided trips improved your fishing?

Kunes, this was my third trip with Jerry and my first trip with Darryl. I guess it always helps my confidence to fish with pros. All 3 trips with them I wasn't considered the client. I wanted it that way so that they could fish and fish the way they regularly would fish if by themselves. I am a sponge and watch every little thing that they do. Both of them prefer flipping a jig to snag the hogs. Me, I am a lazy fishermen and still stick mostly with minnows unless they are super shallow like now and I will mix it up. Pox, thanks and glad you had a good day also.

I didn't limit out but I caught 9 sho' nuff slabs this afternoon. Plus I think I caught a cold. So if anyone here is my boss, I ain't comin' to work tomorrow. My girlfriend said that she would go fishin' with me and that is the only way I will get well. When the slabs get up shallow in the lay downs and I can catch them with a pole, float, and minner it makes me ail much too badly for "work".

Well I can post and fish at the same time. LOL Actually I went out late today after I posted a few notes in here. I only caught 6 as it was pretty windy. I ended up in a shallow bay. I followed my own advice and fished the area where the wind blew into the shoreline. Tried fishing the 19ft deep water all afternoon and didn't get a bite. All the crappie in my lake have moved into the shallow water. Another boat caught 6 or so out of the same spot that I fished at the end of the day. Wind finally died down this evening around 6 pm and I fished ok till 7:30 PM CDST and then left to go home and clean my fish.

I had crappie filets for supper tonight.

My good prespawn spot is pretty well know. People come to the lake and sit on the bank in their car with binoculars and watch other people fish. They them come the next week and fish those good spots. Since the lake is only 90 acres and the best spot is within sight of the boat lauch ramp and parking lot there is no hiding the fact that we are catching fish. Still I have managed to fill the refrigerator full of filets this last two weeks. I don't get up early to go fishing. Instead I sleep inl, post a few posts on crappie.com and then get the boat ready and head out to fish by noon. I don't come home until after dark and then clean the fish, eat and then shower and watch a little TV and then back to bed.

    Tomorrow it's suppose to rain

My trolling motor transducer that I purchased two years ago for 100 bucks had a broken wire and I had to tear into the wiring and fix it. That took me two or three days to do. Now I got the broken wire inside the insulation fixed and sealed up using liguid tape. But now the damn wire at the connection is breaking. The wire is pulled away from the plastic connection and only hanging on by a few thin stands of aluminum wire. If it breaks my trolling motor mounted transducer is shot. I can't get a new one either as Humminbird does not sell them anymore. So it's looking like I am going to be in the market for a new Humminbird depth sounder pretty soon. I may try to wait until after the 17th of this month to order a new unit. Will have to get the new Matrix 47 3D unit and get a trolling motor transducer with it too. Then I may add a smart cast unit with it later on. I like the idea that I can anchor and then cast out and see what is around the boat using the smart casts transducer. I can cover a 100 ft radius all around the boat and find any unknown brush piles or submerged trees around the boat. Then I can mark them with bouys and fish them this summer.

If I get the new unit I will report on how I like it. If I don't get it then I will just end up fishing with my current depth sounder and use the transducer that is mounted on the transom of my boat. That is the high speed transducer that came with my unit when I got it many years ago.

It's going to rain tomorrow so I may stay in an rest up. I am worn out. LOL I have three cuts on my finger and I smashed one of the fingers on my left hand this morning while working on the trolling motor transducers wiring. I have the min-kota half way up and it fell down on my finger while I was working on the wiring. I had to put ice on it as it started swelling. I just taped my fingers together with duct tape and went fishing anyway. Broken fingers don't stop this guy from going fishing!

OH yea. the trick today was flipping jigs tipped with chartruse crappie nibbles or minnows in 4 to 6 ft of stained water in the brush that was just submerged in the shallow water. Most of the bush was not visible but some stuck up above the water. I use 6lb test Berkley Iron Silk Green line and betts bobbers. I used thrill bobbers stops and 1/16oz modified Wal-Mart jigs. I modified them to make them weedless. I used my 7.5ft and 10ft Richard Williams Graphite Rods today with good luck. My biggest fish went about 12" and weighted about 3/4 lbs. Wish that they grew bigger in this pit but this is not KY lake guys. But it's only ten mintues away from my house so it will have to do. Especially with the gasoline prices these days. Oil is selling for more than 58 bucks a barrel now and gasoline is at 2.28 a gallon here and rising

I have four big tupper ware containers of crappie filets in the frig now.
