Default How much do they weigh?

How much do poles actually weigh?

I don't have a scale to weigh mine.

You pick a pole up and guess or is it stamped some where on the pole?

The weight of the reels are advertised, so why not the pole weight? After all, some of us hold our poles all day and the lighter the better.

1 ounce does make a big difference (well, it does to me) during the course of a day.

Just curious and ain't duin nutin right now.

A lot of fly rods have the weight printed on them. If not printed, the weight is usually available at the company's website. All my fly rods weigh 3-4 oz.

I've never seen a casting or spinning rod with the weight shown, though. You'd have to weigh them to be exact. You could always take them to the post office.

This seems to be an American thing. European rods generally do show the weight somewhere.

Tried to weigh some new & old 11' jig poles the other day cuz it "feels" like my new poles are heavier than my old uns. Couldn't get an accurate reading using digital fish scale.

USPO or butcher shop I reckon.

Canepole; You can get a gram food scale @ Wallyworld fiarly inexspensive, set it on ozs. I weigh my rods just in case a customer ask for it, for example we have a 9 1/2' rod that weighs in @ 5.5ozs. our 7' 1/2 1pc. with split handle weighs only 4.5ozs. As for fly rods the ratings are for the fly line weight its designed to cast.

Most of my fly rods have both the rod weight in ounces and the weight of the line its designed to cast (5wt, 7wt, etc.)

    Ok.

Well, I am always hearing about how light peoples poles are but I just never see any pole weights advertised. Old folks like me need all the light we can get.

If I fish with my Martin cc61 on a 7 1/2 ft RW pole and switch to Diawa DX 40 on a 7 foot WM pole, the WM pole wears me down lots faster. The reel is only 2 oz heavier. Big difference.

I don't need an expensive rig to catch pomoxis, just something light that want wear me down too fast.

I wish the poles were stamped with their weight. I am whining....

Makes me wonder why I quit. Beer lot cheaper than Golds Gym and I am more likely to drink my potion of beer than show up at the gym.:p
