    Default Rod length

I was just wondering what rod length is good for casting and jigging? I usually like using 7 ft rods, but I’m not so sure when it comes to crappie fishing.

    I'd rather be fishing!

When I'm in a boat casting jigs, I use a variety of lengths from 4.5 to 7'. When fishing from shore, I switch to my 12-14 footers.

7' for casting, 11' for vertical jiggin works for me.

4 1/2 fters (ul)for shooting docks. 6 fters(med-light) for casting in open water.

    I was thinking about going with a 7 ft, med/light, f/xf tip.

I'll mainly be fishing from my boat, so I'm assuming this setup should be fine. I'm heading out to a fishing show tomorrow morning, so I'll keep my eyes open for any good deals.

    I'd rather be fishing!

Oh boy, I use every thing from 4 1/2 ft U/L To a 9 1/2 footer Med/Lt. I fish mainly from the shore.

I use 6 1/2 foot or 7 1/2 foot rods usually. (ugly Stick light action) just what is my preference I guess for the type of f-n-f fishing I do.

As far as casting goes, a 6 to 7 foot long rod, medium action is probably the best casting you'll find. It will cast further than most other rods.

Thats the length I like the best, but a ML with an extra fast tip may be a little stiff for crappies, and though I do use my ML rod to fish crappies, I think my 7 ft UL XF that is a bit stiffer than most UL's is ideal for the combination of being able to cast light lures, being super sensitive, not being too floppy, and being able to take the shock when using really light lines.
Good things come to those who bait.

I find myself using 8 and 10 ft rods the most, both BnM's and Wally Marshalls.
