So $7.00 for small minnows. How much do the big golden shiners cost then?....thats terrible. But anyways to answer your question I keep mine alive in my old 10 gallon aquarium with an aeration pump.

If you really want to do it right, then this is my idea. Get one of those all-in-one utility sinks that they have a Lowes or Home Depot. They are around $88. It has a 21 gallon capacity, is on legs and has everything you need to install at home to water supply lines or hose.

Then you can hook up just about any pump or filter assembly like in livewells or fish tanks. It is all fiberglass or plastic so easy to drill holes in to put in any plumbing fitting you need. That utility sink will be easy to modify to any need you have. And will be fairly easy maintenance. You will then have just about what any baitshop has for their minnow. Keep in mind that if you hook it up to city water, etc. that the chemicals such as chlorine, etc. may kill your minnows, so you might have to add a treatment.

Default Anybody want to come to California?

I am from Sarasota, Florida and I was thinking to myself that when me and my dad went fishing at Lake Parrish and Okeechobee for crappie that i can't ever remeber him paying over 75 cents a dozen and that was like almost 20 years ago. I figure the price was a little higher here than that but I always thought we got over charged for the minnows here. To give you an idea though out here on the cost of living a three bedroom 2 bath house which is just an average house anywhere in the US goes for about 450,000. I would like to say also that this is not a new house, it is a house that easily could be 15 years old. In florida you buy a liscence and you are good to fish. Here you buya liscence($27), then you buy a second rod stamp($4). Then you get to the lake and for every adult in your boat to fish that is 5$ for the day, and children are $2.50 per a child. Gas here is about $3.05 a gallon for the cheap stuff and about $3.30 for the good stuff. I have a 19 foot Charger Bass boat with a 175 on the back and all I ever use in it is the good stuff. So for me to go fishing with my son and one of his friend with about 4 dozen crappie shiners it seems like I have to take out a small loan to afford the trip. So it all comes down to this, man I can't wait to retire from the Navy in 18 months so I can find a job in a place where the cost of living is not so high and go fishing every other weekend with out taking a small loan to do it.

Duff come on out to NC, Lord knows, looks like everyone else is....LOL!!!
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

I still can't get over the $7/dozen for minnows.......heck, I almost always get $5 worth, and the lil' lady usually gives me a generous dozen at 5:30 in the morning, anyway. But, for minnows to cost more than the day's boat gas..........Dr. Duff, dude, with all them other expenses you mentioned........you doin some high dollar crappie fishin'.......that really bothers me!!!!

I've kept them alive for up to a week by putting them in the refrigerator in an insulated minnow bucket.
