Berkley Gulp Minnows

Just wondering if anyone has tried these? Said to work better than live bait???

I thought of trying them with a jig and with a drop shot rig like the bass guys do.

I aslo posted this on the Texas Fishing board thinking myabe 2 places to ask is better than one?

We have yet to catch anything on Gulp! products. I went through an assortment pack sent from BASS last year - nuthin'. This year, we thought we'd try the maggots (since we were using a gift card and it wouldn't cost anything) and they just take up space in the tackle box, too. - Roberta

I used them last year several times and was pleasantly surprised. Using the minnows, I caught walleye, bass and a few crappie and bluegills. THe problem with the crappie and gills was that they kept biting the tail and nipping it off. THen the bait was worthless. I tried cutting the minnows down to a smaller size but the tail action was gone and I didn't do well.
I did use their skinny red worm found in bottles. I used a 1 inch piece of worm and a bare hook and did well, outfishing a guy with me using live bait.
This year, I am going to troll a jig and bare hook with the worm, and also try using the small grub they sell, also in the bottle.
Some guys I know now take the Gulp nightcrawlers to Canada instead of live nightcrawlers.

Mixed results for me. I have tried the maggots, and one day we tore up the perch on them through the ice. the rest of the winter, nothing would tough them. I used the minnows in canada and the walleye tore them up, but they also tore up the other curly tails we were using, so who knows. I plan on trying the small white minnows this spring when the crappie bite on casted jigs heats up.

I have tried the Gulp 2" and 3" minnows and did not like the action. The tails seem too short and do bite off easily.
Last year also tried the red worms (in the jar) in place of crappie nibbles. Seemed to work really well. Fish tried to eat them off my jigs under bobbers just like live worms. Also tried these worms in cold waters (ice fishing) with almost no success. Seems that the scent release may only work in warmer temps? A local bait dealer told me that the worms (in the jars) are extruded product versus the formed baits like the minnows. His claim is that the extruded product is stronger since Berkley doesn't have to cut it (add anything to it) to make it keep its shape.

I've had limited success with some gulp worms on bass. Haven't used them too much though. Might try the minnow for crappie.
