I've seen fish follow a jig down on Livescope, and also caught enough crappie on the ned to know that they don't always feed up.

Used to catch them on the bottom, bouncing a 4” swim bait under lights for stripers.

Also saw a 2.5lb posted today in a FB group that was said to have been caught on a gob of worms including the bottom.

Here in summer or in cold weather behind a cold front have seen them hold tight to bottom on wood .

Yep, have caught them certain times of the year with mud on their bellies.

In the winter while ice fishing, crappie will feed on bottom if there's not much else to relate to. Also experienced feeding crappie in very dingy water where there's no other structure around.
