    Default pond crappie

A friend I work with has a small pond full of crappie. I gained permission to fish and I went this afternoon. I had fished there before and I knew what I was getting into. In 1 1/2-2 hrs I caught 18 crappie. Unfortunately none of them had any size and I suspect all crappie in this pond are not going to be very big. The biggest one was just over 8". Not trying to badmouth anyone but this is a classic example of what will happen if you put crappie in small ponds and don't manage it. Now I have put crappie in one of my ponds and I intend to keep all that are caught and feed them fathead minnows a couple of times a year and if that still doesn't work, I have heard of stocking Hybrid Striped Bass to help control overpopulated ponds. But anyway it was fun to keep throwing fish in the bucket!

Catching big fish is fun, but catching small ones is better than catching NOTHING! Looks like you had some fun.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.

i have a small pond that has some in it also. And theres even some in there that will go 12+ inches. But It also has large mouth bass and Flathead catfish in it. So between the bass and catfish. They sure eat a lot of the crappie.
