    Default Words to Fish By

Just watched a little Jimmy Houston video and had to laugh outloud at one of his quotes Words to Fish By. "When the line goes slack, somethings happened that you need to get involved in."

I like Jimmy Houston. He gets many laughs from me. Always fun to watch. He has a good one with Richard Gene the Fishing Machine.

I preach this all the time, you have to watch your line constantly. One of the problems I have with screen watching is a fish can hit the jig while not in focus on the screen providing slack. They also spit the jig out before some screen watchers ever know they had a bite. Being conscience of the approach direction to target so your perifocal vision is locked on the line while eyes are focused watching the screen is desirable at the very least in my opinion. Hi vis line with the last 3ft blackened with a Sharpie allows seeing the line go slack easy even out to the side of your vision a bit.

My words of wisdom would be fish close to the structure and as light as possible. Even if I break off more , many times you get rewarded with a couple more bites , on a slow day 3-4 bytes can make a difference.

Set the hook whenever your line does something not caused by you. It's the reason I use hi-vis line when crappie fishing. Your gonna miss alot of fish it you just watch your rod tip.

Yesterday the bluegill were thumping my jig but not committing. Talk about line jumps! Watching line is a must do in this game. I’ve caught hundreds that I’ve never felt but saw the line fall to the water prematurely. Hi vis makes it easy and the fish around here don’t care.

I've caught a bunch of fish with livescope that have got the jig & just sat there. I've also saw my line move just slightly off to the side which you'll see with hiviz if line watching. Crappie can definitely bite several different ways but there's nothing better than that big old thump.

Gotta be a line watcher, just like dock shooting.

I’ve watched them two for a while now. Recently, been watching Rocky Drake Outdoors….i think I laugh more watching him than the other two
