dogs are man's best friends , this is fact and they most certainly have feelings , more than one dog of mine has mourned the loss of their best dog buddy , way back when a really good dog I had ,got to be best buddies with one we got given that was a stray .
He was an older dog when they met and nonetheless he became her best bud quickly ....
When he passed , she was really sad , she sniffed his bed for sevral weeks daily and looked so confused , gave me several really sad looks as well ....
it hurt me terribly to see that old guy go and it didn't get any better watching her looking for him with her sad face for weeks on end .
I feel for your house bro .....sorry to hear that ...

So sorry for your loss. I always say, doggies are people too. And some even better than some people, right.

Sorry for your loss Doug. I agree that dogs are man’s best friend and gifts from God. Sending up a prayer for comfort.

Hardest part of having a dog is losing your dog. They are such loving creatures. I still miss those I have lost, especially 2 in particular. You met one and I think of her daily. I guess God makes your heart big enough to lose a piece every time. I sure do. My best friend neighbor inherited a dog early this year, when his sister passed. The poor thing is blind and ate up with diabetes. She is not long for the world. It is stressing him so much, even though he has only had her a few months. I have made him an offer to take her to the vet for him, when the time is here. He has agreed for me to do it, doesn't think he could handle it. I am not looking forward to it, but he is a close friend and it's something that came to me to do for him. Getting back on track, yes they do love each other and certainly miss each other. Ours always did.

I disagree. The dogs last moment should be with the one he/she loves the most - they see you last as they go. It hurts yes, but it helps them pass is what I believe.

I’ve held all my pets heads in my hands as they passed. It hurts bad but I want them to feel loved until they pass.

I believe that as well, but who holds the dog when it outlives you? As I said, this was not his dog for it's first 13 years, but his sister who passed would have held it. I am doing it for my love of my friend and my love of dogs. It will not be easy for me either. But I will try my best to provide comfort to her. Not every situation is cut or dry.

Hard to loose a family member, especially the ones that you love.
