Cody's got the best idea. If you plan on leaning back on that seat a lot. Cody's design grabs the entire area and should hold for along time. IMO
thanks for all the replys folks..some great ideas.......cody..i think i like the toggle bolts with carpeted plywood idea ...you say its "pretty sturdy"....how sturdy is that? how long have you used it like this? where did ya get the toggle bolts?
I support catch and eat! :D

I like cody's design, too, but I think I would stay with metal. Wood rots out. You can get toggle bolts at any hardware store, walmart even has them.

Kajun, i can kick back in the seat like its my recliner and it holds up quite well. it spreads the weight out over the entire bench. i put a few generous coats of Thompson's water sealer on the plywood before carpeting it and i keep the boat covered. it rarely gets wet. i bought the boat new in november of '05. so about a year and a half. the toggle bolts came from Menards.

Just as others have stated, I cut a hole in the back of the bench, but put in the plastic flange/ screw on hole cover (9") to clean it up. I had foam in there, & had to cut that out w/ the electric fillet knife. It worked really well.
