    Default Crappie Plastics

When you start talking about crappie jigs (plastics), the names are endless. I really dont know if you could count all of them if you tried. But I’m the type that believes most of these baits catch more fisherman than fish by design. Color makes all the difference and I get that but do we really need 400 different choices between black with chartreuse tail? But still we keep looking for that edge.

What I’m getting at here is your favorite. If you had to pick one plastic crappie jig and thats the only plastic you could fish for the next year, what would it be? You can have all the colors you want but they have to be the same make jig body. What are you fishing with?

For me it would be a Charlie Brewer crappie slider. 1 1/2” grub. They just work. You can fish them fast, slow, or no movement at all. Been around for a long time too. I’ve probably caught more fish on them than any other plastic.

    Whats your favorite Plastic?

I'm liking the Crappie Magnets pretty good right now. They have good color options and are value priced I think. Durable enough to last a decent amount of time and have a good profile. When paired with a Crappie Magnet Eye-Hole jig they are hard to beat. Best thing they are a site sponsor!

I do believe after fish become accustomed to seeing a bait something different will definitely get you bit. I used to bass fish a farm pond. Old reliable was a plastic worm either black or purple worked slowly across the bottom. With this you could catch enough to top your buddies. One day I tossed in a silver/ blue back rattle trap. Those fish hammered that bait . A fish a cast was not uncommon. That worked for about 3 weeks then the action slowed. I started throw a diving floater shaped like a bream to them. That action was intense right up until it was claimed by the depths. Sometimes that edge can be of advantage. But you can certainly catch fish with the tried and true old stand by's

I would likely have to say it depends on the day and the fishes mood and mine as well .
Not sure if just one plastic would be good enough for my intentions .
Some styles of plastics do things in the water that others don’t .
Of course in the end a fella could narrow it down to a handful if he wanted to for sure .

I keep a Charlie Brewer Junebug/Chart. Slider rigged weedless on an 1/8 oz. Red head to drag over brushpiles before leaving. One of my new favorites is the 1 3/4" Z-Man Shad Fryz for Livescoping. They're made with the super stretchy elastek material and are virtually indestructible.
