My first jigging pole was made from a cane pole. A wire clothes hanger, side cutters, electrical tape and dacron line was all that was needed to make a jigging pole out of a cane pole. I caught thousands of crappie with this setup. Back then I only used slip bobbers and minnows.

Reed Canes grow EVERYWHERE around here. Just cut you a couple and hang 'em up to dry. Wallaw!

I have a modern day cane pole. Fiberglass Collapsible 14 ft no reel, one eye on the end to tie line for spring doodle socking.

there is a method to the madness on bamboo poles , when you cut them you hang them with a brick on the tip until they lose most of the green hue , a really straight one works WAY better than one of them around the corner ones , dont ask me how I know ....
It's what I cut my teeth on at a young age.
My dad wouldn't fish with nothing else and he'd make his own.
He'd find the right size / length of cane, throw a string up in a pecan tree, hoist the pole up and tie a weight to the tip and leave it there until it had dried out / cured.
It'd end up as straight as you could ever want it.
Good times of good memories.
I always hung mine upside down with a rock tied to the tip. Tell ya something else......if youre bank fishing using reed canes to tie your set hooks to they better be dried out or beavers will cut every last one of them. Ha!
