If I was in a canoe, I would use a short handled net with rubber coated mesh. A cheap aluminum handle with section of pool noodle keeps it afloat. Smaller fish usually get lipped by me! If they get off- so what.![]()
When not bank fishing I fish out of a 12 foot solo canoe most of the time. As evidenced by a number of reports on here I feel slinging or lifting my fish into the boat is a good way to break a rod. And I don't care to use a heavy enough rod to use as a crane that won't break. So I believe a decent net is important. And I need a new one.
What do people like as a net for use in a canoe? It needs enough reach so I don't have to lean over too far. I tip easily with my poor balance as an olde pharte. But I don't want something as long as my canoe paddle either. Between rods and paddles, tackle and gear I have enough stuff to organize in my canoe. Looking for something easy to handle that maybe folds and unfolds easily.
All suggestions welcome.

I use a Frabil foldable net with my both my boats. They fold up and they have extendable handles which work perfect for a small boat.
