I'd be interested in seeing the finished product or would probably even buy one if available if not to expensive.
A friend who is getting up in years decided to make a power livescope mount. He used an old trolling motor mount, some galvanized conduit, PVC pipe and a gear reduction motor inside a PVC box. He says he has about $45 into the whole thing
I don't have any pictures of it yet, but I did some searching, based on his description. I think this is the motor he used:

Having a shaft top and bottom is important, so you can mount a direction dial on top.
I might make one just for kicks. If I don't like it, I will probably be able to sell it for a profit. Might be interesting.
His uses two foot buttons, but I might be inclined to use a simple FOB remote. They are only about $25.
Have any of you guys made anything like this?

I told him that, and he just laughed. He says he wants his last years to be spent doing something he enjoys not manufacturing stuff for other people.
But I might. I build stuff for a living anyway. The mechanism I can easily make. It's a good mounting system that I need to noodle out.
I made my first one out of an aluminum boat hook pole and a PVC outer sleeve. It worked great, but the mount was not great. I gutted an old trolling motor and using the mount and shaft works well. But there are only so many old trolling motors out there. Not enough to make a business out of.
If making it to sell to others, I would need to find something that works well while still being efficient economically to keep things within a reasonable budget. Why make something that costs as much as the ones already available, unless it's WAY better, which I doubt it would be.
I need to think about this carefully. Maybe someone else here has some ideas? The turning motor above is simple and reasonably priced. A manual switch or remote is also easy and reasonably priced.
The shaft and mount system are the biggest issues to deal with, IMO.

DIY motorized LiveScope mount
Well, just seeing the lack of enthusiasm from others, I'm guessing that many like either the hand control or the trolling motor mount. His powered unit was so neat that I thought others might like it.
So the primary question is:
How many of you actually see a need or desire for a powered Livescope mount?
And the follow up question would be:
If you would like one, what kind of price range would you think is reasonable?
l personally don't have a desire for one. But if I did, I wouldn't want to spend more than maybe $400 - about the same price as a basic trolling motor.
I'm definitely interested in what others here think.
I like the idea but for me controlling the trolling motor combined with a power L/S mount might be a bit much. Price point would be my deciding factor, prolly $3-400 for me…

TO waterproof circuit boards, I spray them with conformal coat. Same as stuff used to spray on ignition systems on cars, boats etc
I love projects, but for myself only.

I posted about a bearing hack the other day on main forum. This is part of my steering project.

YOU could also use a linear 12v supply and a momentary reversing switch to change directions.
