Default Full length handle vs Fighting but

    Which do you prefer?

Ive never used the fighting but rods so I have nothing to compare. Thinking of buying a couple but would like to hear the opinions of others first.

    Which do you prefer?

    I dunno.
It’s just what I heard someone call it. May not be the proper name.

The top rod has a rear seat set up while the bottom rod is a mid-seat. I personally think rear seat rods are good for getting extra reaching out when vertically jigging. I do not like them for casting or reeling in fish because of the placement of the reel. I prefer a mid-seat setup because it feels more natural to me.

Fighting Butt ..... Split grip handle ... or as I like to call them, Poodle Tail handles are simply for hookset/fish fighting leverage.

Personally I prefer the straight/full handle, but the rods I use are 50/50 straight & Split Grip. Being as how I've used both types for so long, I don't even think about it anymore.

This is a "split grip" rod -

Have used both. All I have now are the split grip.

The fighting butt is what Precision Crappie rods (Catch the Fever) calls theirs. Crossover is what ACC calls theirs. It’s basically like a rear seat rod but has a little handle near the bottom. I prefer the middle seat rods.

It’s the correct name. Just not sure why you’d need it for crappie.

Usually, you see them on fly rods for fish way bigger than crappie. You stick the FB against your stomach to give you extra leverage against the fish.

I much prefer the old school, full cork, mid seat handle. That is what I've been using all my life. And I can't see any need for any kind of "fighting butt" for crappie.

Sounds like I need to stick with middle seat rods.

    Thanks Men
