    Default Check your PFDs

It’s March and time to check your gear. A lot of us have inflatable PFDs. Now is the time to check them before you need them. I have two, one Onyx auto inflate and one Cabela’s (Stearns) manual. I removed the CO2 cylinders, checked to make sure there was no rust on the membrane where the needle pokes the hole to inflate the unit. Mine are stored inside, so they are both good to go. For those who store theirs in the boat, now is a good time to make sure they will work when you need them.

    Better safe than sorry….

Good advice as you never know when you will need it. I've been fishing for over 60 years and never needed one until this past October. I tripped on a board on the walkway in my slip and took a bath. I was glad I had it on and it worked. At 79 I don't swim that well. And yes, the water was chilly. And wet.

The great part, EZ, is you can get back out of the water and then have a good laugh at yourself. It happens.
