"Tobacco sticks" might make for a cost effective replacement for the pipe. Your idea would certainly make for an easy system to transport and deploy

Working on a different concept using red, white, and black vertical sticks. Will post the concept idea this evening.

We found some tobacco sticks on eBay for under $10 and when they come in we will paint them red, black and white. All colors the fish can see.

Then we will put about five to seven in each cinder block. Cover with concrete and let it sit for a week. After that we will sink about five in an oval pattern. This is the design I created for my test tank. The fish seem to like the vertical sticks better than the horizontal concept.

Interesting thought on the paint job Mike. I look forward to seeing how it goes. As far as the tobacco sticks i'm lucky because a cousin has a barn full of old ones that are just ruining lying across the tier poles. I got around 500 the first time. I put 12 sticks in my block & leaned them to the outside & then another 4 crossed across each other in the ends to create a fanned out pattern which seems to work pretty well.

your post got me thinking about structure and the fact I have bunch of wild bamboo growing nearby and free. Saw on youtube dude making a PVC stick driver to put them in mud where you want them and going to stick them all around my slip and pontoon and all around the docks at my condo. looks like fun!

plus I bought a 6 inch hand battety powered chainsaw on line and it is so much fun to use and the battery lasts a long time. Good thing to keep on my toon and there are places around I can cut down a few saplings and put them right in the lake nearby.
