Seems like if a man is fortunate enough to have dogs in his life there is always one that stands out above the rest. I lost mine seven years ago. Preserve those pictures you have. They will bring good memories to you later.

It's hard to loose a fur buddy, especially when you have them for a long time. Though for some of us 5 minutes is long enough for them to steal away in our hearts. My condolences for your loss. I will agree with a statement made in a previous post, when the time is right, get another, it truly helps. I don't say this as a way to replace Augustuce, but to help fill the void left. God Bless you Sir.

L84- Heartfelt condolences, so sorry for your buddy's call to heaven. As only a pet-parent can realize, the connection we have with our fur-buddies is well beyond words. As SLAB wisely advised me a few years ago "have a transitional plan in place". As my 10.5 yo bud Raven(RayRay) nears his calling, the advice given bears even more volume. You see, Ed(and Abbey), were with us on RayRay's first fishing roadtrip to a Georgia Slabfest just 10 year's ago. Apologize for my natural tendency to ramble, no disrespect/downplay intended. Every day all of us need to maybe see the messaging. Thanks SLAB for the messaging you enabled.Name: Ed and Abbey.jpg

Sorry for your loss. I had to put Sadee down a few years ago, I still tear up thinking about her.

It sucks EVERY time you lose a dog. They really are family. I cry like a baby every time. I'm really sorry for your loss, but 19 years is amazing. Lots of good memories.

Getting a puppy really can help IF you have the energy for it. We lost Katie, and now have a 6 month old puppy. She keeps us running! Hard to think about Katie when we are busy with, "NO! Don't' chase chickens! NO! Put that shoe down! No! Don't tackle the kids! NO! Don't run around the yard with my bait net!" And so on...

Can't say she isn't a distraction. And she is finally starting to turn the corner and is actually a good dog at times. Soon, I think she will be a great dog. They just have to grow up.

Sorry to hear of this Lonnie, I know what you’re going through. I’ve lost a couple of really good ones and still miss them these many years later. Good friends are hard to come by. He’d want you to go fishin so don’t let him down. My Godfathers name was Augustus Schmidt, and he was the o ly Grandfather I ever knew. A good man that comes to mind whenever I hear the name, and this was no different. Grandpa Gus would come to our house and come get the leashes and walk whatever dogs we had at the time. He loved them but lived alone in an apartment and couldn’t have them. I hope he finds your Gus to keep him company.

sorry brother, mine still holding on for now, starting to see a little suffering though, don’t have the heart to put him down. Only god can make that decision.
