    Default What rods to buy

I am getting things together to try spider rigging and pulling crankbaits.
    So my questions are

What rods and reels to buy? Im on a fairly tight budget and I was looking at the Crappie maxx poles from BPS.
    Are they any good?
Also what reel would be good to get?
Also how long of rod to get started?

And where do you get the sinkers for this style of fishing?

Sorry for all the questions but just wanting to try something different.

As for spider rigging the BnM 14 footers will be fine. I am referring to pushing. I don’t long line or pull crank baits.
They are tough and will hold up.
Reels don’t matter as they are just line holders but get something with a smooth drag.
Double minnow and or jig rigs are easy to tie.
    Just Google how.
Start out with just a couple poles and add to the number as you get better at handling the long rods.
    Good luck

I meant that I would be pushing crankbaits.

If your wanting a set of rods to do both bnm pst or southern crappie rods 143t the heavy ones… both will handle both cranks and spider rigging… I would go with a set of 14’ers and you can buy some Walmart el cheapoes for shorter crank pulling rods… a good budget rod that is tough as nails is the West Point from bnm or the cypress creek from jenko…. I would say check out grizzly jig as they usually have a multi rod discount! I’m no expert but I hope that helps

Gonna need something stiffer than the rod I mentioned in last post.
I’m pretty sure my Southern Crappie rods will handle 1-2 oz weights needed to push crank baits.
They are 16 footers and a handful even for me.
I have been spider rigging for many years
It’s a lot to take care of and I didn’t start out using 16 footers. Takes a lot of time on the water.

Daiwa Wilderness is an affordable trolling rod in 8 ft length. Med Heavy for pulling. Check FishUsa and Northwoods Outlet for some decent deals from time to time.

If you want to PM me I am sure I have a few rods I don’t use anymore.
I will check on what I will sell cheap if you are interested.
    Are you in Bedford Indiana?
I see you list Monroe as the lake you fish.

If you gonna push cranks just lash the reels to a broom handle.

As far as reels go any cheap spinning reel will do for spider rigging… I use mini or ultralight size on spider rig rods but larger 1000 size or baitcasters for pulling cranks

I Push jigs with 14' BnM Capps/Coleman rods - Okuma 15 Line Counter reels or Shakespeare ATS 20 Line Counter reels - 1oz Offshore Angler Trolling Weights - 30# Braid main line - 6# leader line.

I Push cranks with the same setup, but use 2oz Trolling Weights.

I don't Spider Rig, but could use the same rods with 1/2oz - 3/4oz weights & Shimano IX or FX spinning reels.

Offshore Angler - Bullet Weights - Crawdad's Fishing Tackle ... are where most of my trolling weights come from.
