Stick steer mechanism comparisons ... I’m eagerly learning ...

I have a mechanical stick steer mechanism on my 50hp ... it’s a little ... stiff ... (could not begin to know what brand - bought used)..

Is a hydraulic stick steer mechanism simply the difference in resistance of a “cable” push/pull method vs a “oil type fluid” push/pull method ...??

Or ... is there engineering involved that warrants more than I can guess ... ??
