    I guess it’s a fishing style thing.
I pitch or vertical jig 95% of the time . Long pole. Stained water. I’ve gone to Hi vis 65 lb test to eliminate the rod tangles. Tied to a mono leader using the Alberto knot.
Go to net knots.com to learn any knot.
Awesome site with animation showing how to tie about every knot you might need.

I've been using 40lb. j braid x 4 with a 10lb. mono leader on a rod that i'm strictly vertical jigging with. On rods that i've been a doing a combo of casting & some vertical jigging too i've been using 15lb hi viz yellow j braid x 4 & a 10 lb mono leader. I think i'll experiment some with color & line size on one rod to see if i can see a big enough difference to change one or both.

I use 14 pound green braid . It has diameter of 4 pound test. But I fish nothing but Lilly pads. I have no problem pulling crappie thru them and some big bass as well.

White or chart. I don't like green, it's too hard to see.

I use a clear mono leader but it's more for abrasion resistance and ease of tying.

I use mostly 10lb for crappie fishing, although I've found 15-20lb to be a little bit better about not wrapping around the rod tip and snagging in rivets, screws, and that kind of stuff.

    Mostly 10-2.
I think I’m catching less fish but also loosing less jigs!!
I think I’ll go back to mono on casting and pitching poles.
I might even go to a leader on my long poles for vertical fishing but I’ll have to use a small swivel to connect the two.
I am really bad at tying a uni knot to connect braid to mono.
Anyone else catch more fish with mono over braid or is it just me??

My buddy uses mono & catches more than me usually. I do tie a leader on my acc crappie stix 13 footer. I've tried it with a swivel but honestly on the heavier action rod i get less tangling without it. I swing pretty hard too & if you miss the line can become a tangled mess instantly with the swivel so i just add a bobber stop to the braid just incase i add a split shot or two, tie a double uni knot to join a leader & have at it. The other rods i use are lighter in action & I've fished with & without a swivel & haven't had any problems either way.

I started using 15-4 green braid (no leader) on Cumberland last spring. I plan to try some 10-2 and/or a mono leader this year to see if results improve.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!

I like the Ampeter 10 lb Hi-Vis braid. Thinner than most. Works fine with no leader when the water is green in the summer. At this time of year, I've been using a few feet of 4 or 6 lb leader, as the water gets pretty clear in the winter. Not sure if using a leader makes a difference, but it doesn't hurt.

I used the moss green with no leader, and I don't know that it caught any more fish, but it sure was hard to see.

I've been using a leader because i figured it was needed on cumberland with how spooky they are. Now if breaking off at night i usually don't add another.
