Some lakes produce fish that are ridiculously thick and tall , a 17 inch black in super fish mode might hit 3 , just saying

Yep, I posted a photo of my personal best at 17" and 2.8 pounds that was caught just a few weeks ago. Water was still cool and the fish was still weeks away from the spawn. It wouldn't surprise me at all to catch that same fish today a few weeks later and have it hit 3 pounds with a full egg sack.

Seems you CA guys have those great black crappie lakes to yourself. Most of the top professional crappie fisherman always say those CA lakes are on their bucket list and these are guys who have fished all over the country.

I am not complaining, a few years ago I was dragging my feet, wife wanted to go away on vacation, I wanted to stay home and fish. This one is one huge crappie caught by my son on a great day with three generations in a 14' aluminum!Name: 20170421_191229.jpg

When I first started crappie fishing, I didn’t know that a 3 lb crappie was a huge achievement,,,so we never took the time to weigh them in,,I was always looking for those 4-5 lbers being the home of the 3 lb crappie as it was,,,,my buddie Scottie and I caught several 3 lbers one day in 2017 on Butla that weighed in over 3 lbs,,, Scottie had his personal best I believe that day with 3 over 3.3 lbs,,,I weighed one at 2.99 lbs and several over 2.5… it was a crazy season for some monster crappie that year,,,I’m very thankful for my mentor Captain Scottie aka “ Trypman1” for teaching the art of crappie fishing,,,,especially now looking back , it was to be my last days of fishing since my wife stroked and have needed me by her side ever since,,,,anyway,,,my last days of crappie with Captain Scottie and.just a pair of monsters caught that early spring morning. Thanks you buddy,, love you my friend!

I fished for years without a scale, so I don't know what the biggest ever was. But the best I've weighed in the past year 1.8 lbs. Based on the size of that one, I'm certain that I have broken the 2 lb mark, but I doubt I ever got close to 3.

I’ve had a really good year. Upgraded my pb since original post with a 3.06lb in March. Also upgraded my pb black bass with an 8.5lb. Although caught on different days. Both weighed, photographed, and released.
Sometimes those cold windy days pay off.
