Not quite sure what I just ate… lol.
It was fish, I know that much. Fish I caught, I’m pretty sure. It came from my freezer… but was not labled…
No idea when I caught it… where I caught it.. or what fish it was.
It was bigger than crappie fillets… it was long like trout, but didn’t taste like trout. Had a strong fish flavor. I don’t normally keep catfish or bass… so not sure what it was. But I will say it tasted good. I’m thinking it’s more than a year old cause it’s not very tender…
Lesson to be learned here… lable your baggies when you put them in the freezer. Don’t be like me. Lol

I've eaten frozen fish from my deep freezer and my fridge's freezer that were well over a year old, many times. As long as it was always frozen, and it was cooked, I doubt you'll have any problems from eating it.
A strong fish taste sounds like either Catfish or Drum. I've eaten both, without the "red meat" removed from the Catfish and Drum with skin on, and both had the heavy "fish taste". But, like you said, it could have been Bass ... which also can taste "fishy" if the "red meat" hasn't been filleted off. It could also have been White Bass or a Hybrid w/o the "red meat" having been removed.
While the "red meat" is edible & not harmful, it usually doesn't have a good taste (ie: strong fishy taste). Some are bothered by it, while others don't give it a second thought (like me, having been brought up eating White Bass & Bass with skin on, and Catfish w/o the red meat removed).

Frozen in water to prevent freezer burn. I would think fish would be good for a long time

my vote is white bass or striper , they are just as fishy as fish can be after you freeze them ...
sometimes we find one of those bags in our freezer too , we typically look at em hard and then say mmmm maybe never mind ...

I buy gallon size Ziplock freezer bags from the dollar store. Place fillets in bag and full with water. They then go in the freezer and they will not freezer burn. Back in the old days my dad used leftover milk cartons to freeze is fillets.
