Default thinking about getting a Garmin GPSMAP 1243xsv

Last week someone stole my Echomap 126 sv unit from my pickup. I am thinking about getting a GSPMAP 1243 xsv as a replacement for it.

The reason I'm considering 1243 instead of another 126 unit is 1243 has an HDMI output jack. This would allow me to get a 20" computer monitor to hook for it and get the larger screen, probably on the console.

The 1243 costs around $600 more unless I can find it on sale, and would require a $76 cable from Garmin to connect it to the computer screen. So it would cost me around $1000 more to get the 1243 and 20" computer screen set up than just get another 126sv unit.

Has anybody tried hooking a 1243 to a computer screen or tv screen? Is this a workable option?

It would be nice to have a 20" screen if this would actually work.

    Sounds plausible.
Only thing would be the inclement on the computer screen.
    Not sure it would survive.

A sunlight viewable monitor would probably cost as much as a 2nd Sonar unit ...

I had not thought of that. I will need to do more review on monitors and maybe take a computer screen I currently own to the pontoon to see how well it displays in the sunlight and how hard it would be to rig a cover around the screen. I will also need to check how much moisture might damage computer monitors.

I know tv screens can take the weather as most of the larger slips at marinas all have tv's set up on their slips that stay out in all weather conditions. I was thinking using a computer monitor for the better screen resolution but I can also test a small tv screen to see how well the display video would look on the tv monitor.
