it "counts" as a fine here in Texas if it don't go back in the water right fast
so it appears we need a better definition on "counts" .....
Yesterday I was able to finally able to get to important tasks that have had to wait because of some minor medical issues. I was able to put in just as the sun was coming up and able to make sure my running lights work.
It seems the wind was holding off so I could actually see a little smooth water .
Seeing an abundance of minnows around a dock, I thought “Hmmm, follow the bait, and the I thought, catch some bait!”. I proceeded to get my almost new casting net out of its storage container. After a bit of “now how does this work again” I was finally able to make a semi decent cast. (Much practice still needed).
Now here is my question , does a crappie caught in a casting net count as a catch?
No minnows we’re harmed in this endeavor

If I am in a "Catch and Grease" mood and it makes it to my belly it does not matter if it was in a net or on a hook. If you are in a tournament then you have to follow tournament rules. Either way you MUST FOLLOW size and creel limits. Just my penney's worth. My advice was not worth two cents.

At least you know where they are hiding,,,,that’s half the battle,,,,
It's a big fine in Texas if you keep gamefish caught in a net. They have too be released. You can do what you want in private waters. Years ago there was a Y-Tube video in which a guy was throwing a net for shad. Instead he caught around 60lbs of crappie.
YOU can count it as a "catch", but you can't "keep" it (not in KY, anyway).
I did a similar thing ... cast netting Shad & came up with a couple game fish. Shad were kept, game fish were released. IF my "thinker" is working correctly, I believe this happened on Watts Bar Reservoir (many decades ago).

Thanks all. I never keep no matter how it’s caught. I thoroughly understand the lawful matters . I just didn’t want to claim a catch unfairly. I guess you could say I am a hi and bye guy lol.

2 outta 3 ain't bad.... and no, netted fish or those that jump in the boat don't count, only hooked fish do.
