Well to be perfectly clear. Two crappie in the net. One on the hook. One tiny brim in the net. All the fellows went back home..

on my first boat ride as a wee one , mullet were doing the lose their minds thing early one morning and jumping like sailfish all over the place as we motored out , one big one just tossed itself right in the boat at my feet !
I was about as excited as any kid in the world to go ketchn with dad and his bud and instantly said ,,,,
hey I got one ! I was corrected almost as quickly with "no, son that don't count"
now as you can imagine I wanted to continue the conversation as it seemed to me at the time that I just ketched me one ....
so dad explained that it had to be on my rod and line and hook and not grabbed from the bottom of the boat .....

Glad to hear the health issues are far enough behind in The rear view that the boats now getting wet. If said fish were to be kept I would say you batter check your state agency’s opinion and not mine. As for the hi/bye or visiting fish, just say you got to meet em.

Folks after serious pondering and such. It seems the coconscious is I CAUGHT one (with rod and hook), and I CAPTURED two (accidentally with a net).
The little brim was just collateral damage.

As said above several times, check with your state, but in Texas no game fish (meaning anything that has a limit) can be caught and kept (that is the kicker, and "kept") with a cast net. Doing around a dock, I would for sure follow that rule as everyone seems to have camera out and it will take that one person that see's you do it to turn that video in. Stick to the pole, but cast nets are fun. Now, if you are on a private lake that is another story. Also I say lake, but somewhere there is a definition of lake vs pond, but to me if I can put a boat in it, it is a lake!
