braid to fluoro problem

I have been using 10lb reaction tackle braid, and kast king 6lb fluorocarbon. I used a uni to uni knot, 11 wrap on braid and 6 on fluorocarbon. I have been using this for bluegills and today when I was rigging up I pulled the lines and it broke with just a little bit of force, I mean like less than a 2 pound mono. I resorted to having to use some yozuri 15lb that I had laying around. what am I doing wrong?

Why so heavy for bluegills?

Just use straight fluoro or mono. I agree with this guy:

I have to drag them through about 10 ft of surface weeds to get them to the pond bank LOL, that was the reason for heavy braid

An easy alternative to the UNI to UNI connection is the Nail knot to Nail knot connection. Using a tool the Nail knot is easier to form up without damaging the line. Typically the UNI will leave you with a crinkled line just in front of the knot. Due to it constricting on itself. The Nail to Nail leaves two dumb knots butted against one another, and nothing much happens.

I have also seen packages of line that were bad, or went bad. Also, somehow I can’t imagine bluegills being line shy. Maybe they are but….

Try the PR knot. (1) PR KNOT WITHOUT A PR BOBBIN / Tying Leaders - YouTube I was able to tie this knot with 10 pound braid, to a 4 pound flouro leader on the first try using this technique. Supposed to be the strongest line to line knot you can tie. They make a tool (bobbin) for this knot, but using the sinker works wonderfully. Plus, it flies through the guides on the rod with absolutely no hang ups.

Don't be intimidated, it's really simple !

The beauty of this knot is the flouro never gets bent, or doubled over itself or the main line, thus creating a weak spot. Works like a Chinese finger trap ..... The harder you pull, the tighter it gets.

I've tried the FG knot (1) SUPER EASY way to tie the FG Knot - Best Method Yet! - YouTube MANY times and cannot for the life of me get it right. It's very hard to do with lighter line weights, unlike the PR knot.

Check YouTube, try them both, and decide for yourself. You will not regret it !

When I use braid and leader I use the Albright knot.
