I use a lot of the smallest ones, size 20, and have a couple of 25’s also. Both are very good. Shimano and Diawa also make good reels in the smaller sizes. I have a 10 bearing Diawa Regal 1000 that is working very well but isn’t tiny like the the President 20’s. All composite makes it light for its size. My biggest suggestion is to take your rod and strap the reel in question to it and see how it balances and feels overall. Hope you find what you’re after, there’s a lot to choose from. Also, get in the habit of loosening the drag when you’re done for the day and it will be smooth for many years to come.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Daiwa SS 700.

Doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" of modern reels, but it will still be hauling in fish after most of the newer reels have been thrown in the trash.

Name me another reel that's over thirty years old and still on the market - unchanged.

Dang, I've just about talked myself into buying another one. LOL

The only problem with the SS 700 is the short feet on the reel. It is too short to mount on my TSS UL. Do not have a TCB, so unsure if it will fit that. It's also a little heavy. Otherwise, it 's a great reel. Try it before you buy. If you can't, buy it from Amazon where you can send it back.

I really like my Daiwa Regal reels. I do have others I like but those feel good in my hand and are super smooth and great drag.

What Dave said. I have a Regal 1000 and it’s very smooth and a super drag. Landed a 3 1/2 foot long Gar with mine using two pound line a while back. Took a while and what fun it was.

Really Chetc wonder what the deal was. I’ve never dealt with customer service that’s terrible. But all my reels luckily have been flawless and I have a few. Name: 00E93E08-B390-4133-B545-98F805C0DA77.jpg
