Fishing hard

Fished hard the last week or so everyday, fish short striking, if you can feel them at all. Fished 40 different treetop and reed piles from 15 to 35 ft deep with tops coming from 6-20 feet. You will only catch 1-3 crappie from each pile if any. Those dog days of summer are here, and usually it’s not this hard to catch a mess of fish. This year is different. Anyone having the same problem.

Seeing somewhat the same deal around here. Last few weeks I've been out twice, both times overnight. First trip was a bust at night flipping double jig rigs Livescope fishing at night, with only a few soft bite nippers keeping us occupied. And as you say, only a handful of fish showing on the submerged brush/trees. Then about an hour after sunup we put 30 keepers in the boat in a couple of hours. Latest trip we tried something a little different, Pushing jigs around brushpiles. And while we did catch a few dinks overnight, the only keepers were caught during the same time frame as the previous trip, though most of those fish were "just" keepers. On either trip, there were very few "thump" bites, most of them being barely noticeable in the rod tip. Even the bigger fish (11-12") we caught on the first trip didn't thump the jigs, nor did the keeper sized fish. They were detected as mushy weight when the jigs were lifted off the bottom, even when we saw them come to the jigs on the Livescope screen.
Water temp was 87deg on trip #1 and 83deg on second trip ... with most fish caught down around the 15' deep level, in about 16-18fow.

This month reminds me more of July fishing from years past .... jus' sayin' .

straight dropping a bait on them right now makes it about near impossible to load the boat and ice chest .
we pitch to them and SLOW drag the offering , still tough to detect bites , but much more likely to "feel" them .
might try "gliding" over them as well and watch for the line to go slack , but as stated some bunches don't cooperate well .
keep moving to new locations , is the key , we hit 6 spots yesterday and some were 2 or 3 and some were 20 or 30 ....

I find it very difficult to catch crappie in summer time for many reasons, mostly because I have not been able to find concentrations of them in water open enough to fish. My home lake doesn't have any of the structure that is normally accociated with crappie. Yes I could catch some trolling and I have,but I am not great at it,and I really don't want to fish after dark. That's why I was so excited to find some new fish last night.

And I wonder if because there are so many more people crappie fishing, and so many LS’ing if that is not having an effect?? I know on lake I fish mostly, crappie never get a break

Not legal here, but some guns and Christians trees have been said to be missing at the bottom.
