    Default Flies and Fries

So here we go , off to see if some poor fella could find a few crappie , waited for a boat ride that never showed up and thought it might go that way , he was sort of skeptically undecided when we last chatted and I left it at that .
Being pushy on a free boat ride is a bit past rude ,so I went in early before the gate opened and at first light there was a boat ! Now this fella was all kinds of pumped up and was turning on his graph and playing with it at the stop sign when i rolled up !.......
I just watched and thought wonder if he has a chance , as he looked at his jig box and played with his other toys in the boat.
The gate swung and off to the races we went , the local bank "pro" passed me while I filled out my docs to enter and the boat never slowed up at the check in station either ,,,,put me in third place right quick they did .
No worries is me and I rolled up to see the local pro fella already on the fishing dock , he of course had choice words for me to be EXTRA quiet so I wouldn't spook off the fish on my approach and I gingerly stepped onto the platform and whispered are they biting ?
First mistake , he has a bit of a strange attitude sometimes and he grumbled I just got here and they were biting yesterday ! So I went by him a bit as he was standing where I wanted to pitch my jig and assessed the situation . Water was quite calm and the fish were bonkers all up on the surface in the wee light of the no sunshine just yet . There were HUGE schools of some kind of fry close to the bank and mayflies all over the dock .
Thought well well well , found the food , bet money they are here and went in for the ketch not kill ......
Pitched a tiny jig to match the size of the food source and hit one first pitch ! Went on with that program until my shoulder got tired ! mister pro fella was just not happy with me and NEVER even got a bite for over an hour while I ripped the living fire out of them !
Told him to downsize his 2 inch bait to 1/2 to 3/4 inch long and he as always, REFUSED to comply and told him it had to fall slowly and be pitched diagonally and twitched like an injured fry as it settled and he still did not change a thing , then he said why don't you just slow down and let me ketch one !
He insisted they bit his bait yesterday and went on and on about the nice size fish he got the day before as I slung them right and left . My mind went into don't say what your thinking , it will REALLY upset him.....
The bite slowed up at 67 crappie with ONLY 2 unders and 10 bluegill at the 1.5 hour mark almost exactly and off I went , when the sun gets up here right now it gets really hot quickly.
So like I told my buddy later in the day , if someone is ketchn and I ain't , you can bet for sure whatever he is doing is what I am trying to do as well , never pass up free advice from anyone when they are on the fish like a tornado and you are not .The pro fella had only one bite right before I left and that was the ONLY bite he got ! He even complained the bream wouldn't even peck his bait .....
my active live sight eye balls showed me about a zillion lil babay fisheez once the sun got up in huge schools on the surface and to be sure if you see that you are on top of a HERD of crappie no matter what anyone else tells you or you think .....just saying
KABOOM is the word ya"ll .....
    p.s. the particulars ....
6 to 10 foot of water , around 7 to 8 was best , only bit on the fall and slack lined it , pitched it to 6 fow and twitched back as it fell to 10 fow , 1/32 handtie number 6 on 6 lb mono with a super extra light 6 foot set up , 6 am to 7:30 am

when you don't pay attention to the details and invitation to ketch , you often get to sit in the corner during the party and just watch the fun instead of participate in it

Nice catchin’ Ketchn. There are always some knuckleheads out there. I knew an old navy man who always said “there is that 10% that never seem to get the message - we called them ****birds”! Anyway, Glad you had a good day.
