Bob, you need to spend more time on Youtube watching the southern boys using bream buster rods by B n M.
Whitey Outlaw and his son Mathew are sponsored by B n M, check out some of their red ear fishing videos on Santee.
There are lots of other not well known fisherman using that type tackle for enviable results on large pan fish, especially in South Carolina and other southern states.
Check out Fish Yanker, or Casselman outdoors and a bunch of others whoes names i cant recall at this time.
These guys are using the most basic type tackle and boats.
Now if 20 bucks or so for a rod is a bit below our personal dignity level, then check out the Tankara fishing site as well.

it is for sure "un ketchn" style my friend , the tip of it is about as thick as light mono , way to flimsy to do real damage to anything except maybe the rod .....
that thing makes a trout fly rod seem like a tree limb for sure , as far as fun though , it is fun without a doubt

I've got a rod like this somewhere. Mine is not a BnM. I need to dig it out for the grandson and myself. They can be a blast. Also he needs to feel the way we used to fish.

I have the regular style telescoping rods that will handle the spawn , they are not similar to this rod very much , they will jerk a fish flat out of the water , this one will not do such .....

I did take a peek (and only a peek!) at the Tenkara style rods. There is one just made for the little, and I mean little guys that is 1 1/2 oz. Probably a blast to fish!

I've been using an 11' Little Jewel and 10' Bream Buster since the early 1980s. It is pure fishing fun, just as basic as it gets. I just love how a bull bream makes the line sizzle on those little rods when it runs. Wait until you hang a 5 pound channel cat on one...KABOOM is definitely the word.

I've been using an 11' Little Jewel and 10' Bream Buster since the early 1980s. It is pure fishing fun, just as basic as it gets. I just love how a bull bream makes the line sizzle on those little rods when it runs. Wait until you hang a 5 pound channel cat on one...KABOOM is definitely the word.

I did enjoy some cricket dunking in a Mississippi oxbow lake back when with what seemed similar to this lil jewel and yes whatever took my cricket and starting pulling us around in the John boat was pretty exhilarating…..

Last time I took my Mom fishing she fussed at me because I didn't have her "cane pole" with us. Which is only similar to the jewel. Add you a quill cork, a bb split shot and a gold #2. Get back to the roots for a while. There's definitely an art to sticking and landing a big ole crappie with this setup.

This thread made me dig the 11' Little Jewel out of my rod locker, put some fresh line on, and get it ready to go along next time I take the kayak out. Looking forward to next weekend.
