After fishing the 4# leader on Nanofil for quite a while, it looks like the Alberto knot works best for me. It passes through the guides with no noticeable catching on the guides and is relatively easy and quick to tie. BUT, the Alberto will break in the knot consistently. I haven’t calculated the breaking strength, but 80% would be my best guess. I have tied a series of knots that won’t break in the knots, but it does slightly rattle the guides as it passes through. So, until I learn better its Griz’s Alberto for me.

Do you have any tricks for holding the looped mono straight while wrapping the Nanofil 8 up and 8 down?
At this time a safety pin is my best option.
You mentioned the Ty-Rite Hook Holder, but I assume that is used for holding hooks and not tiny lines.

Will try to make a video, not very good at that. I will say that I have not had one fail on a fish, but some on pressure pulls, so likely a matter of time, have to be very careful to make sure it goes back through the loop the same way it went through initially. Maybe I can do some pictures tomorrow. I have tied it so long do not think about it.

    A video would be great!

In fishing circumstances I also have never broken off on a fish. But when hung up it would break in the knot if the line would break at all.

i made a tool about 2 yrs ago. not sure if it's the modified alberto of the fg but the tool is really a time saver and it works, i made about 30 of them since and giving them out when the discussion comes up about tying braid to mono or flouro. gonna try and do a video and post it somewhere where it can be viewed

Uni to uni knot is what i use for nanofil to flouro. The most important thing is to moisten that line before you pull them together. That flouro is sensitive to friction and will break if you dont get it wet.

    hi Bob

i was tying the double uni knot for a few years. takes too long and when its windy on the boat it becomes a hassle, this knot i use with the tool works much better and must faster to tie, now the question is, is it strong, i have never lost a fish has the line broke at the knot. might be worth a try if i ever get a video up.

I use 4# nan o fil exclusively. The majority of time I use the improved albright knot. At times I use the uni to uni knot. Neither of them has ever failed me.

I have tried several knots. Don't know what they are called. Uni, I think is one of them. My problem is seeing the line and then getting it to twist the way I want. poor eyesight, and fumble fingers I guess, then I get frustrated. Then really upset, and just put a small loop in an half hitch on each end I want to join. Slide one loop through the other, then take the loose end of the one over/ or outside and slide that tag end through the loop on the inside, then pull both ends so the loops lock together, sorta making a square knot. trim any excess at the half hitches. I have never had this fail, and the knots are small enough to slide right through the smallest of line guides...
