    Default Steers up and Eating.

I looked again this evening on my way by,and they were up eating grass.I knew things were different also by the ultra clear water at the ramp.It had been very windy again and lots of boat traffic. The area I wanted to fish had floating grass, weeds, and algae scattered everywhere. Every other cast the jig would get too much junk on it and no bite; the other half would get thumped. These fish are mainly spawned out. Twenty seven tonight limited only by the short time I had before dark. Water temperature up to 71 now!Name: 20220523_194806.jpg

These fish are mostly spawned out now. They will stay pretty close though, because they were forced to spawn in areas where they would normally retreat to in summer. The water is 6 feet below normal and the lake doesn't normally fluctuate even 6ft. All the channels are too shallow or dry, even the deep water docks are pretty much useless, the deepest ones are in 4ft now. I do have areas with deeper water at the other end of the lake, but launching will very soon be a problem. Summer angling here will be more challenging, but I will do what I must to keep after them.

fishing in norcal? Wow had no idea you had crappie out there and with such size too!

have son in valencia area and always wonder if there are any guys here who fish Lake Castaic? it's close by and looks great but all we do is walk the trails. tho I am bored as soon as we get there every august for GD's birthday celebration. would take my 3 GD's there and fish the bank if they would be interested. problem is son and wife rarely ever leave their house.

That is a long long way south of me, but yes they have trophy size crappie there,I doubt August is a prime time to catch them, but its better than watching TV.
