Thanks very much for the responses! I spoke with a local part time guide in the area today and he likes the Sam Heaton's sensitivity too, also said I couldn't go wrong with anything BnM.

Eagle 1, I considered a rear reel seat, but they won't work well with the rod holders I have (RAM Zooka Tube). I have tons of experience with a fly rod and know my way around a rear seat rod, but they just won't work well with that type holder.

Flipping fish into the boat is totally out with my kayak. It's a sit inside and has a somewhat tight cockpit. If I'm fishing, I always have a net. The issue the guide brought up with the longer rods is would it be difficult to handle that much rod in a 12' kayak. If I ever need to rethread line through the guides, I won't have anyplace to rest the rod. His suggestion was to take the rod down and thread it one piece at a time, then put it back together. I may stick with 10' or possibly go to a 9', since they're an option. I don't have too much trouble rethreading the 8' rods, but I have been able to hang the blade of the paddle under the coaming on one side of the cockpit and rest the reel on the blade out over the water. All my rods are tethered to the boat, so if they get dropped, pulled, or fall overboard, I won't lose them.

I plan to check out the BPS in Cary and check it out. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

Here's a pic of a carp I foul hooked just in front of the tail pulling cranks for crappie on 8 pound test last Spring. It was a battle and took over 20 minutes to get him in the net. The lack of cockpit space and net are obvious. Too bad my Crappie.com sticker is on the other side of the boat.

I second this. Since you’re in NC if you’re near Ed at Southern Crappie Rods I would go check out what he has to offer. Or even give him a call.

BnM is always good and I also hear good things about Denali Pryme rods.

Not recommending a rod,but I have a BnM Duck commander with a mr crappie solo reel I use for jigging. It floats so I just lay it in the water and move it around if I have to rethread or get a loop
    Out of the tip.

Todd Huckabee Dipping rod. 10', sensitive and very strong. Mine sets the hook so hard when vertical jigging that 9" fish fly over my head and anything less will be cross-eyed.

I bought a BnM Sam Heaton Super Sensitive 9' for a test. Depending on how it does & how I like it, I might add more.

Also talked to a buddy who invited me along on his boat to test drive his tackle. We'll see how it goes.

I like the SHSS. However, in the wind it will blow around on you. I used a buddy's 7'6" ACC this weekend and it was much better in the wind and I like the backbone. I also have a BGJP that I like and it's tough as nails where I've broke a couple of the SHSS. I picked up a BnM Gold Jig pole and a Russ Bailey too. I haven't used the gold but I really like the Russ Bailey for slip bobbers. The last eye is a little bigger and doesn't catch up on the stopper.

Tons of good options out there.

My most used is B&M CWRB Russ Bailey 10-1/2'. Just purchased a BGJP 16' but have not got to try it out. Dang wind 30+. Others are CWRB 8' and Sam Heaton SHSS 9'. Got the 16' for vertical jigging but staying 10'+ away from brush pile.

ACC Crappie Stix works great. Sensitive and tough. It's pretty much equaled by my B'n'M Tree Thumper. Both rear seat 10 footers.
