    Default Shallow in Texas ?

Sure they "were" , but as fast as they came in they will be gone tomorrow .
Hit my friend's small lake Sunday , 73 for a high and bright sunshine .
Been nice for several days before and silly me forgot about how crappie operate .
Started in winter mode and never got a peck . Wet my jig for about 30 minutes without any sign of a fish .....
Almost told myself it is just not my day and I have lost what I thought was fact in there.
So as I thought about leaving with a sad face, my want to understand how millions of crappie could elude me so easily, I encouraged me to try a float and jig near the shore .
It was over JUST like that ! First pitch to short water, float acts odd Ketchn sets the hook !
KABOOM ,crappie on and for sure it was on like you wish just like that !
Hammered the fire out of them and even black bass and bream were in the mix , seems EVERYONE went shallow together.
Why would they you might ask , possibly water temps up 10 or so degrees and early to the party is my thought. Kept 40 or 50 for the less fortunate and ate a few of them myself that evening and today as well.
So here is the REALLY good part . Two young boys showed up and asked if the fish were biting when I was about tired of boxing them up . I said "biting like crazy they are and got 40 or 50 in my ice chest".
The older boy gave me that this old man is for sure full of it look ,and I said look in the ice chest . He opened it up and was speechless for a second and the said "wow" !
So the young one tells me they have been there 2 days and he hasn't ketched even one fish !
Well that just made me quite sad and I thought NOT ON MY WATCH ! I told him what rod is your's and let's fix it up so you can ketch some . Tied on a bright chart jig and put on one of my floats and began the instructional phase .
He was a fast learner and didn't ketch one the first cast and missed the bite when he did get one on that cast . Told him let's repeat the same cast and do it again EVEN slower than the first time and watch the float like a hawk , it is a really slow soft bite !
He did the same thing and saw the bite the next time and got it to the surface before it left the scene of the crime . I told him stay with it and you will ketch some , keep doing EXACTLY what I showed ya ....
His Nanny showed up and we chatted a bit and I told her I fixed him up and he is about to start ketchn crappie . Just as I was finishing my chat with her up comes a pretty nice one . He holds it like a pro and shows her and me and asks if they can keep it .
I said yes sir put it in the fish basket and she said NOPE it's to small throw it back ?
I looked at her and said that was about 11 inches and a fine eater ....and she said ....
SSSShush , I got to clean them .....
    KABOOM is the word yawl
p.s. And btw ,he had his second fish in his hands before I pulled out of my parking space !

I'm looking forward to my lesson today! It's not only kids that need lessons, sometimes we old men need to be taught as well.
