Default Buying a boat on Craigslist

Because of a Crack in my hull I have been forced to go boat shopping. I have a War Eagle pre-ordered but I am tired of waiting and i am not sure I want it after all. So I have been looking on line including Craigslist. Twice on other boats I have had the supposed owner want me to take delivery and wire the money. That is not going to happen ever. There is a boat in Sardis Mississippi that I like. its a platform boat and I like it and seems to be a good deal. I am a little old school but I am not driving 3-4 hours to look at a boat without talking to the owner. And he will not call because he does not want anyone to have his # after some dealing in the past....like what am I going to do try to sell him a car warranty.... Am I crazy?

Long way to drive without firm contact in my opinion. I am not say that this one is. But there is a lot of scams out there. Definitely buyer beware. Best of luck in your search.

See if you can get someone on CDC that lives in the area to go look at it for you and have the seller call you back on their phone.

In one of my emails I mentioned CDC. Hoping to inspire confidence. Didn't help

I had the same issues, but from the other side...had a 'souped up' canoe that I was selling to finance a boat. Craigslist had 'wackos' that wanted me to do all kinds of things.

I gave up and went Facebook Marketplace - sold it in a week.

No you're not crazy. Sold and bought numerous things off of Craigslist. When I have run into folks like that I just move on.

I bought mine off CL and it was a smooth transaction. Had two lined up to look at, a 3 hour drive to them tho. Met the first guy, an 89 year old man and bought the boat. Had to call and cancel the appointment to see the other one.
But yes, there are a lot of scammers on CL. Does the guy know what *69 is? He can block his number to call you. Otherwise, I would strongly consider looking elsewhere.
