You might also consider some of the rig storage stuff the carp guys use:

Rig Storage > Tackle / Bait / Tools / Lead Storage

Ben Franklin 5 & 10 cent store useta sell hook, line and sinker in a small tin can. We used the variable pole method too. If you needed a longer pole, just cut a longer cane.

Tenkara rods usually have cork handles and max out at about 14-15'.

Asian rods tend to be very "technique specific" or "species specific". Tenkara, seiryu, keiryu, herabuna, and carp poles are all telescopic and graphite. Only the lengths and actions vary.
Very good info for the discussion ... thank you!

I'm sure the Little Mighty is a fine rod for what it is...but it is no Tenkara rod. It is advertised as a "Japanese Telescopic Style Pole". You start getting into real Tenkara....Keiryu......Seiryu rods you will find they weigh far less than the Little Mighty...and can cost from 100 bucks up to....well all the way to several thousand dollars if you are so inclined to spend it. But it is not uncommon for folks to pay 350 bucks for one of these rods. Ronnie Capps paid 500 bucks for 27 foot rod he got out of Japan. I don't know what it weighed but probably 1/4 or less of the weight of the 25 foot Little Mighty...which weighs 14 ounces.

I was talking to a fishing buddy pre-Christmas about our last tournament. We fished it together and noticed the fish kept their distance in front of the boat. We both were researching longer rod options. He bought a couple and I bought a couple to try out next season. I bought two 27' Tanaka (sp) rods off of Amazon for like $35 each.

I've since seen youtube videos about predator fish in schools of bait fish and it made me relate to what I saw on Live Scope. The fish moved away from the predator, went around, and closed in behind it. They gave the predator space, no doubt for self preservation. I suspect Crappie are doing the same thing around the boat. Another method I want to try this year is spider rigging off teh back of the boat. Catch them when they come back together behind teh threat (boat).

as technology moves with leaps and bounds forward facing .....
some still move to the rear and use methods that have long produced results
the recent crappie master thing is a prime example of no need to go so fast in one direction .
sometimes the best way to ketch a fish is the most simple way , just saying

Nothing is simpler than a fixed length of line tied to the end of the pole.

That’s what the Crappie Master guys did, and that’s what tenkara is.
