There is an emerging crappie fishing idea “method”
of incorporating “Tenkara rod fishing” into the crappie fishing methodology...... (especially with the newest “forward facing” Sonar technologies) ...
Tenkara rod fishing is a Japanese idea of fly fishing with a telescoping rod (with more reach than a conventional
multi-piece rod) - with a fixed “direct tied to tip” line to fish - enticing the bait offering ...
Stop and Google or YouTube “Tenkara rod fishing” ... (think a simple canepole fishing method of a line tied direct to the end of a cane pole - but using new rod composition techniques) ... .
I have ideas ... (especially with my Ky Lake crappie seemingly becoming more skittish with increasing better water clarity) ...
I have faith you guys also have ideas ...
Let’s share ideas ...

Various types of "pole fishing" (fishing without a reel) are very popular around the world. I got interested in the Euro methods years ago. They use graphite poles up to 50-55' with an internal elastic system that "plays" the fish. The Asian methods involve shorter poles (10' -30') without elastics. The flexibility of the rod plays the fish. Asian pole types include tenkara, seiryu, keiryu and herabuna.
All are fun methods. I have two Euro poles (a 26-footer and a 47-footer) and two Asian poles (11' seiryu and 17' herabuna.) For most crappie fishing, I think the Asian poles would work best.
Side note: both the Euro and Asian pole methods often use floats (bobbers) that are much better than what is commonly sold in the US.
BTW ... My Goture 24ftft Tenkara rod weighs 10.26oz ...
Way too “whippy” for spider riggin - but very manageable for single polin ... (meaning never lift fish with rod = but collapse pole until fish can be lifted by the line itself)...
Seriuously ... 24ft at 10.26oz ... unreal ...
Line management to come in future ideas ...

Looking forward to see how this thread develops. I have a buddy that bought a low end Tenkara rod last year and straps it on his electric bike and hits some small ponds near his house. He says it is a relaxing and fun way to fish. I haven’t felt that bug bite, but always nice to learn about another way to fish.

Techically, I don't think that's a tenkara rod -- more like keiryu or a carp rod:

Tenkara rods usually have cork handles and max out at about 14-15'.
Asian rods tend to be very "technique specific" or "species specific". Tenkara, seiryu, keiryu, herabuna, and carp poles are all telescopic and graphite. Only the lengths and actions vary.
