Never had an issue when ordering dozens of rods out of Japan and received them via EMS-USPS. This past 2 years due to Covid the rods came via FedEx or DHL. Sometimes the rods come in PVC and sometimes in heavy cardboard tubes. I mean one would have to work extremely hard to break any of the tubes I’ve received rods in. It comes down to what they are shipped in.

I have been lucky and thankful that the three rods I bought from trout magnet have arrived fine. No disrespect intended, but I personally feel the rod packaging from TM leaves a lot to be desired. That aside, other packaging from them has been fine. It looks like a good shot anywhere in the USPS system would do those long boxes in, but I have been happily wrong. This one is the TCB, and looking forward to using it.

PS I have heard that trying to get a claim out of USPS is very difficult, to the extent that a post was made that said Jeff at TM had pretty much given up. He has nicely stepped up many times and replaced the broken front section.

The tubes these were delivered in are heavy cardboard and about 8 foot long. They have all been broken in the same location. I tried ordering another one, if this one don’t make it I don’t need it.
Some of the drivers don't have vehicles long enough to handle 7 ft. rods. Best thing to do is get online and request they hold it at the post office. My wife is a carrier. I bought her a bigger van for thus very reason. Most of my packages gets scanned in and then handed to my wife at work so most times I actualy get them a day early. Even had some of my jig orders get opened up to see what colors and profiles I'm using.

I sold a reloading press on Ebay years ago. Around 45 pounds of cast iron. I fit Styrofoam blocks around it and and put it in a box. Wrapped i reinforced tape. Handed it over the counter at the Post Office. They weigh it and take my money. Grab the package and toss ot 10 feet across the room into a hopper. I sure felt sorry for whatever was under it when it landed
We live in a very rural area, we know the postmaster and her staff by name. The last broken rod, they called me as soon as she seen it. You are correct though, most local carriers do not have the capability to transport something of that length.
It is what it is, I started this thread so I could see if there were other crappie fisherman with similar issues. I wish I could purchase locally because I really do care about my local community. I hope someone reads this post and decides to start a business, maybe shipping, maybe manufacturing. There is absolutely opportunities for both.
Yes
That was a 6 ft Cashion. That's when I learned to have my longer stuff held at post officeAttachment 416766
