There are days when I decide it is best to crawl back into a warm bed and go back to sleep

Love to Sauger fish as long as the river cooperates. I fished a lot in November & December catching several personal best fish. But 2022 hasn't started out well. My trout lakes are frozen over. & the river is a mess.

It's so cold I've been spending time painting ceilings in our house. You know I got it bad. LOL

our shrimp tend to head to the light at night in most spots locally when the water chills
dont pay them much attention here though as it is mostly small fish with them .
our shad spawn more than once a cycle ,so it is a crap shoot as to what size shad they are eating .
seen shad 3.5 inches long dead in the winter and shad 1 inch long dead in the winter water .
good read none the less and in the end , the fish you posted the other day looked really spawned up if it was fresh out of the water when you captured the image , somewhat worked tail and heavy color tells me it likely went shallow recently if it came out of the water looking like that .
in your part of the world it would be safe to assume pre spawn is well under way ,our black crappie will move up next month and we are far colder water here .
might think about short water spawn areas at first light after a few real warm days
you will beat the crowd and quite possibly hit a huge fish as the older fish often move up first in many cases .
    just a thought my friend

I am decidedly on the side of being comfortable to fish. Too cold and I just stay home. We have a windy cold snap here this morning and I'll be having lunch with some friends and taking the dog to the vet today instead of fishing. Us Texas boys can handle hot weather better than we do cold.
Last week they were moving up the river channel in the big lake already. I'll be back after 'em next week.

I have tried a bit of cooler weather fishing.. The old bones just don't take to that these days. But as far as being bored, well the lovely wife helps with that. reminds me of all the things I need to do but went fishing instead . Gots plenty to keep me busy! But spring will be here soon!

I don't mind being cold while fishing but the water levels/current/color dictates when I can go.
