You did well
Water is cold, lake is frozen on the north end but decided to fish for the fourth day in a row since snow was coming. Actually, it's snowing right now. I fish tiny 1/48 chub heads tied with duck feathers on #10 sickle hooks under a 3/4" weighted float and this rig has been killing it over the last month. Even caught my PB Black crappie just under !8" on December 30th at this little lake and released her after pictures. Up until yesterday I had only caught one white crappie in the last month but the blacks have me going back. It turned out to be a big fish day, in 2.5 hours caught 11 white crappie and 2 blacks with several bass and every fish was over 12" up to 15". I let the wind do the work and it would blow the tiny jig and float rig around and then the float would disappear. Probably my best day ever at this lake and I have been fishing it for over 50 years.

That lake looks familiar to me. I used to live In the Milstadt, Illinois area and I think I may have been there with my grandkids. Is that lake around the Fenton area?
Great catch!!!

On this day I tried something different and fished two rods at a time, one in my hand and the other I cast out and let the wind blow it around. Probably half the fish took the unattended jig and float rig, look over and the float would be gone. Definitely going to do this more often.
