If you up the line a little, there’s the tiny crazy crawler and jitterbug in small to ultra lite sizes that would be appropriate. Pop-r or similar plugs will generate some fun hits and the small hooks stay buttoned better on the softer glass rod. Have fun with it, truly a gem. Buy the giver a nice dinner.
Yes it's a nice setup, cool using something well before my time, I seen nos spools somewhere so having others for 6 or 8 pound would be nice. I think I'll try to catch some shad this spring with it, the drag seems pretty good and there's enough rod to play them. With the slow Ratio I think it will be nice for slow Retrieve road runners or similar.

I have one of those reels stored away somewhere. I don't know if you can still find them but the earliest crappie jig I remember was the Go Getter. Dad tied on a casting bubble to my old Zebco and filled it with water. Tied on a leader and a red and white Go Getter. Said to cast it out and count to ten then reel it in real slow. First cast I caught my first crappie. This was late 50's or early 60's. Priceless memory.

Me too, and that’s a fact, Skeet. My stuff was so crappy that the fish just laughed when I showed up!

PS Still had a lot of fun though!

It's amazing how little you really need to catch some fish, I've done some real weird stuff to catch fish. I used to drill water wells, often we would drill for these great private lakes and all day I'd be dying to fish. I tried few pack pole setups but nothing survives being on a well rig long. I ended up using a bottle with about 50 feet of line and some jig heads stored in the bottle to fish with.

I was fortunate enough to fish the Persian Gulf and Red Sea for 2 decades. The fishing was so good we called it catching. Was throwing lures to fish that had never seen lures. While all us expats used the typical fishing gear the old Saudi’s used a Pepsi can with 80# test Ande line wrapped around it. Watched them many times wind up and cast the line and it would come off the can just like a spinning reel. Saw them land many fish in the 50 pound range just pulling them in hand over hand. I tried it several times and while the casting was easy it was a chore landing fish…even fish in the 10-20 pound range. Not to mention pretty darn hazardous to your hands.

    Regards
