    Default Hucklebee K Rod ???

I was at my local bait/tackle shop today and I saw a Hucklebee 16' K Rod. Started to buy it but wanted to see if anyone else had used one of these for single pole jigging??

Anybody got one or got a opine??

    Thanks

I used a 13' Huckabee and I can tell you it was a tank! They can muscle the biggest of crappie to the surface. "You can yeet a 14" crappie into the live well from the bow." My GF is right and the construction is up there with the best. My 2 cents, I wouldn't own one for jigging all day long because they weigh a ton. Remember I'm talking about using a 13' rod and within the first 40 mins of jigging my bum elbow was not happy and throbbed for a couple days afterwards. When jigging I typically use a carbon fiber rod for the lightness and feel. They are usually fast action, so you have the fish bending the rod back to the 2 piece section. I fish 14' Ozarks and Jenkos for spider rigging and they are a bit lighter than a TH rod. I don't think I'd use one of them for jigging all day either.

    Pro:
    Stiff
    Great construction
    Stainless steel eyelets
You can huck a fish from the front to the live well

    Con:
    Heavy

Mostly wondering is a 16' rod for jigging too much length? Too heavy? Too akward? Too whatever??

I’d like to know how they feel. I’d suggest you go back to your local shop and hold it out and see how it feels.
I use a 14 a lot and it gets heavy after a while.
I have another brand that is 16 and it’s heavy and a little too whippy , so it doesn’t get used much.

My opinion; I owned a 16’ rod for a day before I sold it to Rees Guide to troll with. I’ve used 12’s for a long time and didn’t care for the extra length and weight of the 16. I only use my 12’s to jig with for short periods. Gets to my joints too. I have a Sam Heaton super sensitive in 10’ with a rear reel seat that I can use for a long time without fatigue. Bony enough to smack a 2lb crappie without issue but not tough enough to boat flip one that big. Todd Huckabee rods are very beefy for up close brush fishing and do a good job at it but remember what they were designed for. What he does isn’t a finesse technique. He uses heavy jigs and big bodies in search of the bigger fish and weeding out the smaller ones by using a bigger offering. My standard is to not buy any new type of rod without holding it in my hand. Good luck and I hope you find what you need.

If that is the case, they are heavy.

I was thinking carbon fiber was the lightest material on the market.

I tries 16 footers and didn't like them. When you pull in a 4" fish it feels like a 4 pounder. Arms get wasted very fast.

16 is too much for me. What’s next, 18, 20?
