    Default Hair or feather

I use plastic 99% of the time. I am planning on ordering some hand tied jigs. Who uses hair and who prefers feather and why? Thanks

I use some plastics but trying to use more of my hand tied jigs. I use hackle feather 99% of the time with my hand ties. It’s what I like and have most of. Also hackle is what I learned to tie with from Skip and SK. I do have marabou feathers and while it has more action I like the durability of hackle better. I haven’t used much hair jigs so can’t compare.

Hair (like bucktail) gives a fuller body.

Rabbit fur or marabou feathers give better action.

I like bucktail. Be it hair or feathers all seem to have subtle differences in how they look and their action in the water

I use hackle 95% of the time. I only use maribou when tying 1/64th oz or smaller jigs. I have use bucktail, craft hair, kip tail and all the others on occasion but hackle is my go too.

both hair and feathers have a very very subtle action once wet , they are especially good in really cold water .
the slight and often very subtle movement mimics lethargic baitfish .
what is better is likely up to the person tying in my opinion , they both seem similar to me action wise .

I like the marabou and hackle combination with parts of turkey feather for wings. I pour my own soft plastic lures and tie my own jigs using the above materials with a bit of chenille for the body. Lately I have been using a float and fly with a soft plastic on the top lure tied on with a Palomar knot and a feather and marabou on the bottom tied with a loop knot. Both will have some "Slab" sauce or some "G" sauce on them for an attractant.

For me, well I have and use a lot of everything. I have plastics, Feather, both hackle, and maribou, as well as several types of hair. I let the fish decide what they want. When I go, I'll take some of each and, depending on water conditions, pick a couple to start with...Hope you find the answer your looking for, and good luck on your quest...
