Cut a piece of 5/8 plywood about 3" wider than the hatch and cover to match your carpet, then bolt to hatch cover . But don't cover the hinge. So it will open.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Tiem to do a little more research.
Buddy had his mounted on the front compartments on his procraft bass boat.He used threaded seat posts and would take a seat off if he needed to get in a compartment.Worked fine i fished with him a bunch and never had a problem.

I can't speak for others but I installed mine on the front compartments of my Lund this year and really like them. Much safer in my opinion than the setup you install in the existing center seat mount. I used that style for several years but the bars and post connecting it were a real trip hazzard. My lids are very sturdy. My lids were already 3/4" thick but I did add an additional layer to be safe. Really works well for me
I switched bases on my boat to make it work
Which model Lund?
I have the Alumacraft Competitor 165, similar to Lunds Impact series. My deck lids are aluminum with reinforcement underneath. I have no doubt the hatch will hold the weight, they don't budge when I walk on them.
I also have serious concerns about the cross bars, especially while fishing in my winter gear. I've had both knees and 1 hip replaced. 2nd hip gets replaced after New Years. Tripping, failing is major concern for me. plus this is a sport model, full windshield, so there is no walking around on the gunnel side. Must walk thru the windshield, over the cross bars, to get to the livewell in the back. Tomorrow we are forecasted to have 20 degree highs so it'll be a good night to measure out the seating on the lids. Garage is attached and heated.
I really appreciate the feedback.
I have the 17' Rebel with a walk thru windshield as well. Love my boat. I'm almost 65 and have several older friends who fish with me at times. Tripping over the metal bar in the add on double seat setup was a real concern. Used it for several years.
So far I've had zero issues mounting my bases and pedestal seats on the front lids of my boat. I planned out additional support several different ways but my lids were very sturdy and are holding up well.
I was concerned as well as to the stability of the seats when mounting them to the lid box as I often fish alone in winter. So far I'm very pleased.
