    Smile A quick question

Does anyone have any experience with the sickle shaped Aberdeen minnow hooks as opposed to the regular rounded "normal" hooks? I was thinking about trying them, but I have a scad of Aberdeens already and I've used that type for a lot of years. Do the sickles have a better hookup record, in anyone's experience?

I like sickle hooks a lot in jigs. I have not used any for live bait fishing. Hopefully someone will pass through that has

That’s all I have used since they first introduced them. Personally I think they have a better hook up ratio compared to regular Aberdeen style hooks. But lots of guys swear other way around. Just my personal experience they are worth trying at least.

I have never seen a sickle hook that wasn't very sharp.

My only problem with sickle hooks is the small barb most of them seem to have, which may allow the minnow to get off or be knocked off easier than on a Aberdeen hook. They also don't bend open as easy, thus tend to break or cause the line to have to be broken in the event of a bad hang up.

But, no ... I don't use them (live bait hooks or on jigs), but I also don't think the hookup ratio would be all that much better//worse. And I say that with the idea in mind that a hook up is mostly dependent on too many factors to make a good comparison.

I’m a sickle fan for a long time. But I also use almost 100% artificial lures. Sickles have a smaller barb and a minnow can easily slide off. I notice more hook ups in the roof of the fishes mouth with sickles than I ever had with conventional hooks.

Don’t use minnows but I use sickle hook jig heads all the time. I buy them in bulk.
