My last house in TN was on the edge of a crop field. Mice and rats were a constant thing. I snap trapped all of mine under control. Peanut butter was never refused. Got an occasional chipmunk too. Squirrels were fed by the next door neighbor until they moved into my wife’s side of the garage and soffits and they had to go. I’m still tying jigs with those tails.

Hay fields can be terrible at last cutting when it turns off cool. Them homeless field mice will invade the nearest warm place they can find

Was under a house pulling wires. When I rolled from my back onto my stomach to crawl out I felt something on my back. Them claws in my coveralls all the way out from under that tight crawl out. When I got out and pulled those coverall off. It was a mummified rat the size of a chihuahua. Sure glad that critter had expired long before I ran acrossed it's path
